For One More Day

"If you had the chance, just one chance, to go back and fix what you did wrong in life, would you take it? And if you did, would you be big enough to stand it?" - Mitch Albom, For One More Day

This is the latest book I just started reading and it's so nice I have to blog it. I first heard about Mitch Albom during college when I had a porfessor who raves about him. I read Tuesdays with Morrie a year after graduating and it really touched my heart. After that I was able to read The Five People You Meet In Heaven and its beautiful story almost made me cry. (The only book that made me cry is the Purpose Driven Life and some parts on Leo Buscaglia's Living, Loving and Learning (i was broken hearted then) ).
Now back to the book, I learned about it when I was searching National Bookstore's website bec i was looking for a book worth P300 for our exchage gift this Christmas. I was planning to ask for a book kasi. And so I read about For One More Day, synopsis pa lang nakakaintriga na. My Nanay is my soft spot, anything about Nanays could make me cry. :(
And so i wanna have the book, and since i can't wait 'til exchange gift to have this, I asked my sister last weekend when were at the bookstore to give it to me as christmas present which she obliged. I usually read it while going to the office and in the train going home. Right now I'm at the latter part of the story and I can't put it down I wanna finish it. (I actually have another book in mind to buy after this..)
And here's the catch, Oprah also raves about this book that he guested Mitch Albom in her show to promote this and she actually produced a TV version of it to be aired this December. (Oprah first produced Tuesdays With Morrie which won an Emmy award).

What made your day?

Today's thursday, and it has been my habbit to blog atleast once a week and i normally do it on Fridays because friday afternoons for me is the most boring time/day of the week. :)

So what made your day?

Me, thinking that tomorrows a holiday so I'm coming home (bulacan)na later.
Trillanes made my day. He must be out of his mind, should've staged that protest in Edsa Shrine and not here in Makati.
Work. My, my.. work seems to be affected my climate change. Last year we hardly have requirements during this time and now we've got tons of works to do plus "deadline" to meet.
I want to look for a cheap coffee maker (can i actually find one worth P500?) later but because of the i-don't-know-what's-happening-in-ayala now, i have to fly to cubao as soon as possible later to avoid delay. Waaahhh, i'm meeting Popoy later and i shouldn't be late! Arghh..

Emotional Catharsis

Last night I bought a gift for someone very close to my heart that I cried because i felt very happy doing it. L This morning after seeing happy people I felt sad, because I felt a little envy because they just look too happy for me. :(

Just when things are starting to get boring and my emotion’s a little unstable and erratic, I read this very inspiring poem.

THE GREATEST ADVICE
Rick Warren, the Purpose Driven Life

Don't date because you are desperate.
Don't marry because you are miserable.
Don't have kids because you think your genes are superior.
Don't philander because you think you are irresistible.
Don't associate with people you can't trust.
Don't cheat.
Don't lie.
Don't pretend.
Don't dictate because you are smarter.
Don't demand because you are stronger.
Don't sleep around because you think you are old enough & know better.
Don't hurt your kids because loving them is harder.
Don't sell yourself, your family, or your ideals.
Don't stagnate!
Don't regress.
Don't live in the past. Time can't bring anything or anyone back.
Don't put your life on hold for possibly Mr. Right.
Don't throw your life away on absolutely Mr. Wrongbecause your biological clock is ticking.
Learn a new skill.
Find a new friend.
Start a new career.Sometimes, there is no race to be won, only a price to be paidfor some of life's more hasty decisions.
To terminate your loneliness, reach out to the homeless.
To feed your nurturing instincts, care for the needy. To fulfill your parenting fantasies, get a puppy.Don't bring another life into this world for all the wrong reasons.
To make yourself happy, pursue your passions & be the best of what you can be.
Simplify your life.
Take away the clutter.
Get rid of destructive elements: abusive friends, nasty habitsand dangerous liaisons.
Don't abandon your responsibilities but don't overdose on duty.
Don't live life recklessly without thought and feeling for your family.
Be true to yourself.
Don't commit when you are not ready.
Don't keep others waiting needlessly.
Go on that trip.
Don't postpone it.
Say those words.
Don't let the moment pass.
Do what you have to, even at society's scorn.
Write poetry.
Love Deeply.
Walk barefoot.
Dance with wild abandon.
Cry at the movies.
Take care of yourself. Don't wait for someone to take care of you.

You light up your life. You drive yourself to your destination. No one completes you - except YOU.It isn't true that life does not get easier with age.It only gets more challenging.Don't be afraid.Don't lose your capacity to love.Pursue your passions.Live your dreams.Don't lose faith in God.Don't grow old. Just grow YOU!

Pirate No More

Do you still remember the times when buying original CD's/DVD's would cost you from Php 500-1,500? Maybe we have something to be thankful for to those CD/DVD "pirates", because of them the price of the original CD's just dropped off the ground. Hehehe :) Lately I have been interested in collecting old titles of my favorite movies in VCD. Why VCD? Eh medyo mahal pa pag DVD noh. :P (Old titles ranges from 75-100 pesos only.)
Below are some of the titles I have right now which I bought last weekend:

RAIN MAN - this movie is memorable for me during college since I made a review of this movie as part of my requirement to pass my Behavioral Analysis subject.
THE BEACH - i don't particularly like the story of this movie but the beach in Phuket is one of my dream destinations so it wouldn't hurt if i just imagine it in this movie for the time being.
A LOT LIKE LOVE - the movie is cute although a little boring at the start. Their sondtrack is so good it made me fell in love with the mivie tuloy.
MOULIN ROUGE - one of Butets fave movies, worth collecting daw kaya i gave it a go.

And now the list of the titles i'll start hunting tonight:
The Pursuit of Happyness
Meet Joe Black
John Q
movies of Tom Hanks
The Thomas Crown Affair
Harry Potter series
First Knight
Naked Weapon
Million Dollar Baby
I am Sam

I have to stop my list, ten muna for now. Baka di nako makahabol pag dumami pa. Now i have to HAVE a portable DVD player for my VCD's na talaga.

My Travel Diary: Gora Palawan

Puerto Princessa
Nov. 9-11, 2007

I am well aware that most of my friends and family knows this trip. Bakit nga hindi, this has been planned 6 months before our actual flight!
I won't be giving out all the details or kwentos cos this would take forever for me to narrate them all so I would just enumerate the things that made me fall in love in Palawan and the unforgettable things that happened to us there (with inserts of pictures to add more story). :o)

1.) P1/seat sale of Cebu Pacific. Because of this we got a roundtrip ticket to Puerto Princessa for only Php2,000 (tax included). Wohoo!

2.) Bonding time with cousins plus Te. This was my first trip with them where we traveled by plane and the farthest so far. (All of us are first timers in Palawan). It's really different when you travel with your family, you enjoy every moment talaga.

3.) Snorkling at Honda Bay Islands. This was the best I had so far. Snorkling in Bora is nothing compared to this experience. We spent the whole day hopping form one island to another just snorkling and enjoying the corals and the thousand species of fishes in it. I had a close encounter with clown fishes, thousands of Talakitok and Dalagang Bukid all over me and I was chased by a territorial fish which scared me and Te to death!

4.) Urban Legend (?) at the Underground River. While inside the cave we would hear this "splashing" sound near us but we don't feel any splash of water which is really creepy. We asked the guide and told us that it was just his paddle testing the water, and we didn't believe in him. All of us felt that there's something in the water that was making the sound. We even asked our tour guide if there's a crocodile in the water and she denied it. We still don't believe that it was just the paddle so we asked the hotel staff that night. She said that there is actually snakes, big snakes (mala-anaconda daw) in the water. These snakes are always sleeping and that they only appear before the guides and never on the tourists. Nagtumbling ako bigla upon hearing this because I put my hand in the water while inside the cave testing how cold the water was. What if biglang kinagat nlang ako ni anaconda?!

5.) Kinabuch's Crab in Garlic Sauce. I looove it! This is the best I've tasted so far I think I ate the whole serving. :)
(There are also videos of our kalokohan in Palawan which you could check by clicking this.)

Brighter Than Sunshine

I
I never understood before
I never knew what love was for
My heart was broke my head was sore
What a feeling.
Tied up in ancient history
I didn't believe in destiny
I look up you're standing next to me
What a feeling.

Chorus
What a feeling in my soul
Love burns brighter than sunshine
Brighter than sunshine
Let the rain fall, Idon't care
I'm your's and suddenly you're mine
Suddenly you're mine
And it's brighter then sunshine

II
I never saw it happening
I'd given up and given in
I just couldn't take the hurt again
What a feeling.
I didn't have the strength to fight
Suddenly you seemed so right
Me and You
What a feeling

Facebook

So, are you already a member of Facebook? If not, mukhang napag-iiwanan ka na ata ng panahon. :o)

I signed up on this last August because i read from Chuvaness that this is the new friendster, and me being a sucker for new things to be busy about at home and in the office, i joined. When i first signed up there were only 3 members on my address book and now my network is slowly growing. What i like about this new site is that you could choose what applications you want to put on your site. (Application varies from organizations, e-groups, gifts, games and a lot more) And you could fight with your contacts as well, which is basically what i normally do everytime i log in. ( ehem, Achernar)

So, shall i see you in facebook then? :)

Ho-hum..

So how do you last a day like this?
  • Dial-up internet connection. No messenger, no blogs to read, no internet reading. Translation: NO WORK.
  • Clogged nose, bad headache and eyes that are on fire.
  • No new candidates from your jobstreet posting. Translation again: NO WORK.
  • Gloomy weather.
  • No exciting events to look forward to except for Palawan. Man, i'm tired of thinking abt that.
  • No food to munch on because I'm too tamad to go out and buy something to eat. (It's breaktime now you see.)
  • Almost everybody in the office are out/on leave!

I wish I'm in a different situation unlike this, big time.

Like in the mall buying outfits needed for Palawan. There's a big diffence from need and want talaga.
In the bookstore buying my bday gift for Tets-Bu.
Scouting for a perfect wrap-around dress for an affair on the 28th.
In a spa having a much needed head and back massage.
Or simply at home, in my room sleeping.

Ho-hum..

Wow!

This got me really excited after seeing the Inquirer's front page: Manila Ocean Park to be open in December!
Yes, our country will finally have a world class marine park and will be located at the back of the Quirino Grandstand at the Rizal Park. This is even bigger than Sentosa's, around 2,000 sqm difference. This 1B worth of investment (by Malaysian and Singaporean investors) is set to open in December and is 80% completed as todate.
My pamangkins will surely be very excited abt this as much as I am. :) And did I also mentioned that the entrance fee is just reasonable? With P250/head for students and P350-P400 for regular patron. Woooow na woooow diba? :)
Now i'm thinking, meron kayang Marina and Dyesebel na nags-swim swim ang Ocean Park natin para orig? :D

26th!

I am not a fan of birthdays, mine in particular. I get excited for friend's or relative's birthdays but not on my own. I welcome October with my birthday blues, kadramahan etc...
This year was different, i feel blessed and loved. Why not? I'm with my loving family and i get to eat the foods that i craved . ;)
(Carbonara which i cooked, and was a blast!)

(Ohhh, ice cream in pistachio and cashew flavor.)

Me talking to Butets: "Kain kang cake, mango cake. Sana carrot cake, ayaw ko na pala ng mango. Hehehe" :D

Thank you Lord, thanks to my my family and friends, to those who remembered, thank you for making it my best bday ever! (blushes)

Keep Holding On

A very dear friend is going through a very serious trial right now and I want to be one of the "positve person" for him. He is one of the few people I talked to as soon as I knew that my mom has leukemia two years ago. I was crying really hard as we were exchanging text messages that very unforgettable night. He gave me words of strength and faith that I needed despite the fact that I know that he's a little afraid talking about such things. He is always very positive and his faith in the Lord is admirable.
He first called me maybe a month ago talking about a "problem" that he cannot tell yet and that he wanted to go to Manaoag and pray for help. All he said that time was that it's something serious and the only option is surgery. Me and another good friend was alarmed on the seriousness of the problem prompting him to go to Manaoag so we both decided to come with him, but he's having a bad cough that his father didn't allow him to go.

Weeks after I learned from him that the "problem" was actually a mass that need to be taken out of his body through surgery. It came as a shock to me considering the sensitivity of the mass' location. Also, I know that my friend isn't open to the idea that he may undergo surgery, as he keeps on saying that there must be a medicine that could dissolve the mass that he needn't have to go under the knife. Unfortunately, he has to.. and it has to be done as soon as possible. The mass that we thought was just simple mass appears to be alarming and that he need to undergo series of tests (lots of it) before proceeding with the operation. That news, which i just learned this afternoon saddened me. According to his doctor it's a semi-emergency case and that he need do something about it. He even mentioned that it could be cancerous and that he may undergo radiation, chemo therapy etc.. I know this isn't easy for him to take as well to his family and i also know that he's still trying to keep the positive outlook he has on all the things happening. He would always send his friends messages of faith and hope and he would always ask for prayers as he go through such ordeal.

I know that you have so many friends praying for you and I am one of them. Just keep on praying and believing that everything will be well. I can see that beyond this trial you became stronger, you learn to believe in you faith..to trust in Him. Always remember that the Lord woudn't give you something you cannot overcome. Just be strong and keep holding on.

Addicted to THIS...

I first tried Chef Tony's popcorn half year ago and since then I'm addicted to it. I remember before when Pesto flavor was the "craze" and there i was with a good friend with me hopping from one stall to another just looking for that flavor. Popcorn is a good source of fiber, perfect for me whose always concerned on that "issue". I used to hoard Kettle Corn and Holy Kettle Corn but none of them can match this...

Intruducing, Chef Tony's Country Cheddar flavor! My latest addiction. :) Actually, my fave of all. I've tried almost all of their flavors (Natural, Pesto, Cinnamon, Parmesan, Machiatto, Chocolate, White Chocolate, Walnut) and nothing beats the Cheddar Cheese! I can finish one container in just one sitting, this infact is my Friday-chicha on the bus on the way home in Bulacan. There was even a time when my pamangkin, Bianca would complain because I would always bring popcorn as my pasalubong to them ;) I love it, i love it!

(after downing the first one, i have to stop myself and took a pic). Hihihih

I'm lovin' it!

Aside from the heavy workload and tons of reports accomplished this week, I was able to squeeze in updating my iTunes. I downloaded iTunes 7.2 (the latest version) here in my office pc and I'm overjoyed on the Artwork feature of it. :) So everyday since Monday, I would download the Cover Art of the albums for the songs in my library. Tedious, but a lot of fun afterwards most especially if I put my images on songs whose album covers doesn’t appeal me. ;)

MRT Scene Stealer No. 3: The Fighting Amazonas

Just this morning, I again encountered a funny "little" incident which I won't miss to blogging about.

The train was about to stop the Magallanes stn, normally, people who drops off from this station (me included) eh naglalapitan na sa pinto ng train, at mangingiti ka in amusement pagbukas ng door kasi parang may sunog sa loob ng train kasi lahat sila nagtatakbuhan towards the exit (di nako kasama dun).

So eto na nga, kaninang umaga, akala ko "just like the other ordinary days" ang eksena..

(May mamang pulis na sumakay sa Ayala stn, and pag pulis ka, you are allowed to join the girls sa first car ng train).

So bumukas na ang pinto, all the while i tought it was over. Pero wag ka, ang dalawang amazona di pa pala tapos sa paglabas ng galit sa isat-isa. Nakita ko nlang na siniko ni Amazona 1 si 2 sa mukha! As in full force! Sayang! :D

MRT Scene Stealer No.2: The Driver

MRT Scene Stealer No.2: The Driver

Today's Friday, and quite unusual morning than any other day, thanks to this man who seemed to had Okra for his breakfast earlier. ;p
GMA-Kamuning Station:

" Wag pong magtulakan. Kung matino kayong tao di kayo manunulak, tandaan nyo yan."
Cubao Station:
"Paalala lang po, mag-ingat po tayo sa mandurukot. Ang mga mandurukot nagsasamantala kapag siksikan. Kaya kadalasan ang mga mandurukot ang syang nanunulak."
A girl from my left: "Eh di lahat pala mandurukot dito." Laughs.
Santolan-Annapolis Station:
"Tandaan po natin, ang MRT ay pampublikong sasakyan. Pampubliko po yan. Kung ayaw nyo ng siksikan at kung ayaw nyo ng nadidikit sa iba mag-taxi po kayo. Marami pong taxi sa labas."
Ortigas Station:
"Sa mga ganitong pagkakataon po, isa lang talaga ang solusyon para di kayo mahirapan: Pumasok ng maaga."

....Honga naman. :D

Today I Learned: Greenpeace

Today I learned from a "reliable source" that big hurricanes are all over the carribean sea and this is due to global warming.

My sister and the rest of her family in San Diego are experiencing heat waves now. They can't stand the heat in their house so they had to buy an aircon. That's sad news considering that they should've been using warmers than aircons! My pamangkin even commented that she would faint from too much heat. Oh, another Tricia's exagerrations!

This made me think that I should not just sit here and do nothing about this very serious problem we are facing. Last monday on my way to Makati from Bulacan, I saw children burning tires and it emits big black smoke. I wanna get off the car and stop those children from doing that since I cannot stop the tires from burning. :( It felt sad. I kept on commenting about the effects that those children did to the ozone layer afterwards. Before, I planned in joining a group or an organization that would plant trees all over Metro Manila. I haven't done that. I'm still looking forward to doing that soon. Probably I should start looking for an organization now more than ever.

So I just signed up for Greenpeace Movement, for now. :) It's an international group of environmental protectors and enthusiasts. Accdg to their website, "Greeenpeace exists because this fragile earth deserves a voice. It needs solutions. It needs change. It needs action." Nice diba?

MRT Scene Stealer No.1: HOT Chick

Here's a funny incident that happened to me this morning while riding the MRT. As expected during rush hour, we were like hundred sardines packed inside the train. As we were approaching Boni station, I heard this "conversation" between a girl (Girl 1) about 28 years of age, slim and pretty and a lady (Girl 2) in mid-thirty's whose on the heavy side...

Girl 1: "Sabi ko nang umayos ka eh. Ano bang gusto mong mangyari?!" (yelling)
Girl 2: "Ano bang problema mo?" (softer tone)
G1: "Ah di mo na natatandaan ginawa mo?! Mag-Memory Plus ka nga!"
(Me: smiling and thinks: "Uy, may advertisement pa!")
G2: "Wala akong ginagawa sayo. Wala kang galang."
G1: "Anong wala'ng ginagawa?! Eh halos daganan mo nako kanina. Buong katawan mo halos pabuhat mo na sakin. Ang laki-laki mo pa naman! At talagang di kita igagalang kasi ikaw ang nauna!"
G2: "Natutulak lang din ako. Di ako dumadagan sayo."
G1: "Nananadya ka! Nagpaparinig ka pa! Anong gusto mong mangyari?! Akala mo di kita papatulan?!"
G2: "Tumahimik ka na, pinagtitinginan ka na ng tao."
G1: "Wala akong pakialam sa kanila. Ikaw ang manahimik LUMBA-LUMBA ka!"
G2: "Wag kang ganyan magsalita, di lang ako mataba dito. Nakakasakit ka na."
G1: "Sayo lang ako nakatingin, ikaw ang lumba-lumba! Balyena!"
Somebody: "Shhhh... tama na yan!"
A girl infront of me: "Grabe naman yan, ang sakit magsalita!" She's a little heavy also.
Me: Smiling. :)
G1: "Tumigil kayo! Di nyo alam nangyayari! Wag kayong makialam"
G2: "Tumigil ka na, maganda ka na. Ikaw na ang tama."
G1: "Oo, tama talaga ako! At di hamak na mas nasa ayos kesa sayo!"
G2: "Di mo ko kilala."
G1: "Ako rin di mo ko kilala! Gusto mong magpakilala ko sayo? Ha? Ha? Ngayon nakita mo na di ka uubra sakin!"
G2: "Di kita papatulan."
G1: "Eto hinahanap mo. Kanina pako nagtitimpi sayo!
MRT Driver: "Approaching Ayala Station, approaching Ayala station."
G1: "Makababa na nga dito. Baka mapatulan ko pa yung babaeng mataba na maraming sakit!"
G2: " Oo, bumaba ka na bastos ka."
G1: "Di ako bastos, di ako kasing taba mo. Atleast ako sexy!" then off she went..
Girl 3 talking to her friend: "Ano ba yan, kahapon din may ganyang eksena."

Wahahahahah.. Add this to memories. :)

A test of faith and courage.

Trying times.. May God be with me as I go through all these. WAAAHHHHH. :(

Just as I'm writing this post, I received a text msge that says:
" God said, "If you never felt pain, how sould you know I'm a healer? If you never felt sadness, how would you know I'm a comforter?
Child, if life is perfect.. would you still know Me?"

Answered Prayer

God really hears and listens. It's been raining for almost three days now. Ms. Maynilad must be smiling nowadays. Finally we can take an extra minutes more in the shower. Yahoo. :)
Thanks Chedeng. Thank you Lord.
Now what is this I'm hearing that jeepney fare will rise from 7 to 10 pesos?!
--------------------

Edit: Funny but Cardinal Rosales has actually asked devotees to stop asking for rain because of the continuous downpour.

Red Alert

It's very alarming. Months ago I was surprised to know that cactus can now survive in Paris. Here in the Philippines it hasn't been raining when it's supposed to be rainy season now. August of last year we've had six typhoons already, there hasn't been any typhoon this year and according to PAGASA they are not expecting any typhoon for the whole month of August. Water dams are all approaching critical level, in fact a dam in Pangasinan has closed down, one of the biggest in Asia. There was a hailstorm in Baguio, a tornado in Baliuag/Pampanga, Meralco and Maynilad are charging higher and has cut down their supply for electricity and water..and now I've been receiving text messages asking for prayers for RAIN!

Oh.My.God.

Is it still a wonderful world for my Vito? :(

Crossroad

If this is what He has planned, then I am ready for it. I won't take it against anyone. I should not let it overcome my spirit.
If this is what He has planned, then thy will be done.
Today I may say that I'm a totally different person. A lot of things has happened and has been happening lately. Some aren't easy to accept and even comprehend. Most of them has brought shock and denial in me. For now I am keeping myself strong and that's few of the things I am very proud of myself. Life ain't going to be sweet and easy for me as I wished before, and I have come to accept that. I think that's what really matters, for now.
Lord, help me.
It is with acceptance that I learned how to be strong. Life goes on for me..

Today I learned...

I enjoy eating pineapple core than the fruit itself, that's another weird thing about me. And I just learned today that excessive consumption of fibrous pineapple core can result in fiber balls collecting in the digestive track. Yikes! :)

What made that scrapbook special is that I asked the president of Philam Properties to also write something there. I became close to him since then, we used to be textmate for months after leaving the company.
  15. The last movie I saw was the Transformers at Greenbelt 3 with Achernar. Didn't enjoyed the movie tho'. I left my Php 340 change from the lemonade stall and Achernar lost his Php100 worth of stored value MRT ticket. Talk about curse of the Megatron!
  16. Next movie to watch: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix with Butets. I wanna watch it in Gateway's Globe Platinum Cinema. Must be special cause I've been waiting for this movie! (edit: that'll be tomorrow na) (re-edit: Globe platinum cinema was sold out the whole day. Note to self: Next time I should buy the ticket in advance para di makakontra date ko) ;p.)

The Dalai Lama

I have been reading Ala Paredes' blog for quite sometime now. I admire her talent in writing, passion for art, her nationalism, her skills in painting most especially in photography that's why I would always check her blog for updates regularly. She has moved to Sydney with her family now and I am very interested in her adventures. But this particular entry deeply moved me, I had tears in my eyes after reading it. Let me share this to all of you...
And I quote her:
"I've always been intrigued by the Dalai Lama, ever since my dad would talk about him when I was a little girl. I doubt any other spiritual-political leader has been as enshrouded in mystique as he is. Like many, I always imagined him to be a sort of wise, mythical figure who seemed to be above everything in the material world, a cross between Yoda and the Buddha (although the Dalai Lama is actually believed to be a reincarnation of the bodhisatva of compassion, and not the Buddha as I previously thought). The Dalai Lama is regularly quoted and misquoted, and anything that is said (or supposedly said) by him is almost automatically considered a pearl of great wisdom. When I heard he would be touring Australia, I trooped to The Domain along with many others to hear him give a free speech on "Peace Through Inner Peace". I guess most of the people there were hungry for some sort of spirituality, but secretly, I was curious to know whether the man was really as big as the myth. The very first thing the Dalai Lama did was bow, with palms together in "Namaste" position, to the multitudes who had trooped there to see him despite the bitter cold and relentless rain. Why this disarmed me so, I cannot imagine. Certainly it was to be expected from the world leader of Buddhism; and yet, the humility of the gesture coming from such an important man, caught me quite off guard. Others seemed to be caught off guard as well, because tentatively but willingly, everyone copied and returned the gesture, while trying to keep a grip on their umbrellas. And with that, he began his speech. There he was in front of me in the flesh, the Dalai Lama, one of the world's holiest men, and a world leader destined to shape the course of history. Was this really happening? How did it happen that my life's path crossed his at this place and moment in time? Did I ever imagine this? However, I was unfortunate enough to be in an area of the field where the audio was not too good. I barely understood his hour-long speech. I remember him saying that as humans, we were capable of generating endless amounts of altruism which is something no other animal, mammal, or species could do. Also, in the middle of saying something absolutely profound, he liked to crack jokes, and he would laugh heartily afterwards. What a laugh he had. So real and mirthful, with a clear, pure ring to it. His laugh seemed to dispel negativity, like a temple bell. He had a calm, serene aura. The Dalai Lama is a funny guy, and he can very readily laugh at himself. At one point in his speech, he lost himself while he was saying something along the lines of "First we must find peace within ourselves, and then we must practice compassion towards others and then... ". He paused for a few seconds, staring blankly, finger raised in the air, before finally declaring comically, "and then what?!" Then he burst out laughing. He was more candid during the question and answer portion, and I was lucky enough to find a spot by the speakers where I could hear him clearly. The Dalai Lama was asked all different kinds of questions, from how to practice compassion in a culturally and religiously diverse environment like Australia, what to do when your loved ones are fighting at home, his opinion on political issues between China and Tibet (to which he declared himself to be "half Buddhist and half Marxist"), and even how to deal with the current drought brought on by climate change (to which he answered, "Gee... I don't know! Take less showers! Or be like the ancient Tibetan Lamas who never took showers!").But my favorite question (and favorite answer) came when someone asked him how the young should deal with the growing disillusionment with everyday life and with the world.Unfortunately, I am unable to quote His Holiness accurately, as I have only me memory to rely on. But I can share what I remember.
"After the events of September 11, everyone feels that the world has changed, and that is how the media loves to paint it. But that is not true. The world is still the same. When I look out my window the wind still goes like that -(makes gesture with his hands). It is still the same sun. The only difference is there are more airport regulations now. (Laughs)
It's the same with celebrating New Years eve. People like to celebrate and wait for the sun to rise thinking that it's a new day and a new sun. How childish! It is still the same sun!
The problem with people is that they like to focus on just one event, and then they want to generalize on the whole world. But if you have a holistic view on reality, if you look at a whole picture of the earth, I really see the world is improving, and that humanity is becoming deeper and more interconnected, through information and tourism.
For example, in the past and even earlier in the 20th century, people would willingly fight in wars, as an honor. But at this present day and age, in America for example, there are so many more people now who are against the war, and who advocate non-violent , compassionate means. In the Soviet Union and in the Philippines, dictators and oppressive political structures are toppled through peaceful, non-violent means. This is something very new. Then there is growing environmental awareness. Till the beginning of the 20th century, we did not feel we had any sense of duty to to care for the earth.9-11 is just one event. Do not let just one event delude you into thinking humanity is doomed. If you look at the whole picture of the earth, it is improving."
I wonder if I was the only person in tears while he was saying this. When was the last time I heard a person say that not only is the world is a good place, but that it's getting better; and that humanity is evolving? Let me tell you, I haven't heard ANYONE say that at all in a very, very, very long time. It's not one of those things you expect anyone to say. It's almost as if it's taboo. In this day and age, cynicism is chic. Only the foolish say the world is a good place. Day by day, the media tells us that humanity is getting meaner, more corrupt, and more stupid. We shake our heads and say "people never learn, and people never change." More and more, I hear people my age saying they don't intend on bringing children into this world because it's not such a great place, and that they don't want to pass on their defective genes to another person. I feel a deep sense of tragedy whenever I hear that. It's an injustice. Something inside of me begins to protest. What about the parts of life that are good? I, for one, still think the world is a beautiful place. I want to bring children into this world, even if it's overrun by terrorists, or if I might pass on the cancer gene, or if I might put them at risk of dying from some pollution-related illness. Giving them an imperfect world or an imperfect life is, to me, still immeasurably better than not giving them a life at all. What is a "perfect" existence anyway? The world is a beautiful place, and life is beautiful even in all its shittiness!Thank you, Your Holiness, for saying so.Before he left, he blessed the people with him on stage by draping a white cloth around them (they seemed quite at a loss for words), blessed his audience in a way that made every one of us feel he was blessing us personally, and bowed with hands clasped many times before exiting.Carl Jung says that when we idolize heroes or leaders, what we actually see in them is our own light qualities that we're not ready to own up to. And so we "project" them on to another, and make that person "carry" those qualities for us, because we can't bear the burden of being heroes. It's nice to think that I've been blessed by a holy man. But it occurred to me that while the Dalai Lama is indeed wise, and compassionate, and a very enlightened and extraordinary human being, maybe he just thinks of himself as a regular guy, and much of the mythical holiness and compassion we see in him is actually the holiness and compassion we already have in ourselves."

Very inspiring. Now I am dreaming of seeing The Dalai Lama and hear him talk.

I've Been Tagged

Been tagged by third from his multiply. I had to ask from my "sources" to make it to No.6. :)
"Each player of this game starts with 6 weird things about himself or herself. People who get tagged need to write a blog entry of their own as well as state the rule clearly. In the end, you need to tag 6 people as well and list their names. Don’t forget to let them know they’ve been tagged!"1. I have different nicknames depending on my set of friends: I'm EBS to my cousins; BETH to my HS friends; DOLTZ when I was in college; MS.D from a previous company & CANDY to some.
2. When sleeping my toes are pointed away from me is such a way ballerina does when dancing. I also need to caress my pillows before going to sleep and then after waking up.
3. I am the laziest person when I'm at home in Bulacan during weekends. I just eat, sleep and I don't comb my hair, take a bath and even brush my teeth (well it depends if i have to go out or if i have a visitor which is always the case). ;p
4. I cannot eat pizza without a tomato catsup.
5. I eat almost anything, but I have a meticulous taste for good food.
6. I spend around 5-8 hours/day talking over the CP. Thank God for Sun Cellular. :)

Thursday Movie Marathon

Music and Lyrics
(Hugh Grant, Drew Barrymore)
Had a very bad experience watching the movie the first time, I'm glad I still took time watching it again. The movie is light and cute. Not so much on the "kilig" factor because I don't think Drew and Hugh are "bagay". But I liked the song Way Back Into Love right away, intro pa lang natuwa nako. It's good they chose a perfect song where the story generally revolved. Just okay for pirated DVD worth P40 which me and Butets personally bought in Quiapo. Heheh;)

Sunshine
(Cillian Murphy, Mark Strong)
Wahahah! The movie is a disaster! Butets, you said the movie was nice on the "Premier Night"?! ;) Didn't actually understand any part in the story because we wasn't able to watch the movie from the start. I actually made up stories to get interested in the movie like telling that the plot was about "Solar Man" whom power came from the sun and will eventually kill all characters in the story. He did! Hahah:) Note to self: It's still worth watching because I had Kettle Corn and Cotton Candy nman with me! ;)

Cute ng Ina Mo
(Ai-ai delas Alas, Eugene Domingo, Anne Curtis,Luis Manzano)
Funny movie! Ngtumbling ako kakatawa kay Eugene Domingo. I enjoyed the movie so much because of the company I had: Butets, who snores like hell while laughing. Mama Monching, whom I thought is having an asthma attack from laughing to death and Lot-lot and KP whom I wasn't able to see how they reacted in the movie because the "Big Momma" is blocking the view! (wahahahah). Buti nlang pinaglaban ni Monching aka Betty La Fea ang panonod sa movie, enjoy naman! We watched this movie after we walked out from Sunshine, we had our wrists stamped by the Cinema staff and then go straight to the next thinking we could sneak in just by showing our stamp (which is triangular in shape) and later found out that the next cinema's stamp where Cute ng Ina Mo is showing is actually circle! Haha! Ako pa nman ang nangunguna sa pagpasok, kahiya. Of course I just pretended that I entered the wrong cinema nlang and get away with it. the next thing they know we are coming in again showing tickets na. Buti nlang di nman kami pinansin na nung staff. ;) We're still talking about the movie's crazy antics and acronyms on the way home and over coffee in our apartment. ;p

There's no doubt that I hold a strong feeling for you. You may not exactly feel how much you mean to me, you may not always feel that love, you may always end up frustrated every night because of my insensitivity and shrewd personality. I may sometimes made you feel unworthy, unloved and unhappy BUT i want you to know that you have my heart always.
I know i don't usually open my emotions to you. When I'm angry, frustrated or sad I just keep mum about it. You discovered in time that you have to push me or provoke to help me release my emotions. Thank you for keeping up on those hard times. I am sorry for all of my inconsistencies, my shortcomings and my insensitivity. I know and I understand that it takes a lot of patience and understanding to cope up with me and I wanna thank you for that.
I wish I could make up for all those difficult times you suffered because of me. I wish I could erase all those hurtful words, actions and feelings you had to go though because of loving me. I wish I could be the right person for you, the person whom you deserve.
You're a very good and loving person. I wish I could be like you. I hope you could also feel the love I always feel when I'm with you. I wish I could make you really happy. You deserve it, you know.
One bad situation always has a purpose they say, i learned it the hard way..I don't wanna lose you and I need you..that's all I have to say.

Thoughts to Share

Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, we will never lose our value. Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, we are still priceless to those who do LOVE us. The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by who we are. You are special- i am special. Don't you ever forget it. Let's count our blessings, not our problems. A smile, a kiss or a hug can touch a soul, warm a heart and may even change a life. Spread the LOVE you have in your heart. Do not be afraid to show the worl what you've got!

Today I learned...

.. that i am not that courageous and strong-willed individual as I believed I am. I don't wanna fret on what the future may bring. I don't wanna babble on all the bad things coming my way. I am no superwoman but I wish that I could do everything that I wish to do, be the person I am so hoping I would become, to be able to share the love that I have inside, share the joy and beauty of loving someone and reciprocating it twice.
I wish life would be easier. No complications. No ifs, no buts.
If only i could teach the whole world to sing and dance in the rain, i think we'd be happier.

When a Woman...

I'm bored. I want to blog. But I don't know what to say, my PMS is eating me up the whole day..BIG TIME.
Aawww.... :(
For almost a week now I've been a little emotional. I cried a lot. I'd sit in a corner and stares blankly on the tv. It's either I'm sad, quiet, or if not, in sour mood at work or even at home. I listen to my ipod but doesn't seem to hear anything. And I can't clearly explain nor point out the reason why. Well maybe it's still because of this PMS. I hope...
